Urban surface design
Designing surface water runoff in urban environments
Shopping precincts
Precincts have many design requirements in common with other urban areas. They also, however, have their own specific challenges. Designed to cater for the different preferences of shoppers for both environment and linkage between shopping areas, they will frequently include both enclosed areas and spaces open to the elements. Parking, pick-up and loading areas are also key parts of the precinct design that require careful detailed design.
As with all other areas of urban design, the management of surface water in precincts is critical to ensuring the safe movement of people, the protection of assets and the incorporation of comfort and amenity.
ACO’s range of drainage products includes a wide variety of channel solutions for the conveyance of water in pedestrian and trafficked areas. This includes ACO StormBrixx for attenuation, ACO Q-Ceptor for hydrocarbon treatment, together with an extensive range of gullies and access covers.

Our Design Team
Collaboration is very much a part of ACO’s way of working. For over 50 years we have been offering creative design solutions to all sectors of government, public and private enterprise and have a track record for development and regeneration informed by community aspirations and environmental context. Our in house design team and our external design engineers have excellent technical understanding of interconnected systems that can help you create sustainable drainage solutions in all categories of the urban environment.
Tools to support you
We also offer software for design surface to assist you in making your own calculations, as well as design visualisers to assist in helping assess impact of various grating/inlet details. BIM product files along with a variety of other support documents are all available for download here.
